DewPoint 331 Register for Updates

The DewPoint 331 hay steamer is used with two-string, three-string, and round balers.  For the past 4 years, we have been testing the new the DewPoint 331.  At this time we are excited to move the machine into a full market release status for the 2022 season.

Staheli West, Inc.  produced a significant, but still limited number of machines in 2021.  These machines have been operating throughout the Western U.S.  Naturally, there were some bugs and issues that needed to be resolved, but after a lot of effort by our dealers and product development team, we are please to report that all the released machines ended the season strong with minimal problems.

Considering the supply chain issues faced by all suppliers and manufacturers, we are currently taking orders for 2022 machines, with a large majority of those machines already committed.

If you are serious about purchasing a DewPoint 331 steamer for the 2022 or 2023 season, we highly recommend talking to your local product specialist or dealership.

DewPoint Steamed Hay

What Are People Saying About Steamed Hay?

The DewPoint hay steamers, produced by Staheli West, generate steam, which is injected into the hay during the baling process. The steam softens the dry hay and allows farmers to make high-quality hay day and night without the need for natural dew. Hay baled with steam is superior to hay baled conventionally in both how it feeds and its nutritional value for your horses.

The stories and videos on this page are in relation to Decker Farms out of Cortez, Colorado, which purchased one of the very first DewPoint 331 hay steamers. We now have hundreds of customers using the DewPoint machines to make high-quality feed for dairies, cattle operations, and people feeding horses. Whatever your needs are, we can either help you find reputable hay producers that using the DewPoint steamer to bale their hay, or talk to your current hay supplier about the DewPoint steamer and the benefits it could provide their farming operation and their valued hay customers.

We hope you will take the time to watch the videos on this page and read through some of the benefits of feeding steamed hay.  See why Randy and Sandy Coleman from Coleman Racing and world champion racehorse trainer Blane Wood won't feed anything but steamed hay.  We hope to hear from you soon!

Steamed Hay Feeds Better & There is Less Waste

Have you ever cut open a bale of hay, tried to peel off a flake and the hay falls apart? You'll notice in some of the testimonial videos on this page how nicely each steamed hay bale flakes and holds together. You'll even notice that you can split the flakes in half without the entire flake falling apart. Peeling apart each flake and feeding is so much easier with steamed hay.

Those feeding steamed hay have also found that there is far less wasted hay than there is with conventional hay. They have found that their horses clean up the steamed hay much better because it doesn't get scattered and blow away. Eric Van Reet, Stallion Manager with the 6666 Ranch in Guthrie, Texas, states:

"Once the studs got used to the texture of the stems on the steamed hay they would clean it up. The studs have been on non-steamed hay for about 2-1/2 weeks now and it's amazing the difference in waste. [With steamed hay you] can feed about 1/3 less and not see any negative effects. If anything, all things equal, they'll gain weight."

Steamed hay has even been compared to cubed hay because of the way it packs and holds together.

Steamed Hay is Better for your Horses

One of the first things feeders of steamed hay notice is the leaf pattern in each flake of hay. If you feed your horses alfalfa or some kind of grass-alfalfa mix, you will notice an increase in the amount of leaves in each flake of steamed hay. The leaves are where the nutritional value of the hay is, so the more leaves that are in each flake, the more protein and other vital nutrients your horses will get. Hay baled with steam is also less dusty than hay baled conventionally. Steam acts to reduce the amount of dust in the hay, especially in grass hay. Dust is detrimental to a horse's respiratory system and is the cause of some respiratory diseases. Hay that is baled dry or without sufficient moisture will fall apart easier and contain more hay dust that could be inhaled. Some horse owners believe that feeding steamed hay has reduced colic in their horses. Check out some of the testimonials on this page to see what horse owners are saying about DewPoint steamed hay.

What are the hay consumers saying about steamed hay?

Randy & Sandy Coleman

Randy and Sandy Coleman out of Lubbock, Texas, raise racehorses. They have been buying hay from Decker Farms for years. The Deckers have always made sure to send them their premium hay. Several years ago, the Deckers explained to the Colemans that they had purchased a Staheli West DewPoint Hay Steamer. Randy had never heard of the steamer before.

Before long, the Deckers sent down the first load of steamed hay to the Colemans and the rest is history. Now the Colemans won’t buy anything but Decker Farms’ steamed hay. See what the Colemans have to say about feeding steamed hay to their prized racehorses and what changes they have seen with the new steamed hay.

Blane Wood - World Champion Racehorse Trainer

The ultimate goal of any racehorse trainer is to win the world's richest racehorse. Blane Wood and his family have been fortunate enough to win that race 3 times.

Among other factors, feed quality, especially alfalfa quality, is very important to Blane's training program. In this video, Blane talks about the importance of good, clean alfalfa in a horse's diet. The steamed hay checks all of the boxes for Blane when it comes to flake quality, leaf retention, dust, and cleanliness.

After struggling for years to find a hay supplier that had plenty of good quality alfalfa, Blane finally connected with Decker Farms out of Cortez, Colorado.

Blane now only feeds his horses steamed hay and is an avid proponent of alfalfa baled with the DewPoint Steamer.
